I wish I could call Maddie a best friend and put her feelings aside and let her friends marry in peace, but unfortunately I can’t While in Ireland, Maddie makes a mysterious wish to St. Brigid that she was marrying Paul instead of her friend, which is a gross violation of the Girl Rule if you ask me. On a quest, Maddie is transported to an alternate reality where she marries Paul instead of her best friend. When she sees what she thinks is her best friend’s ring on her finger, she screams and starts helping him get ready for the wedding. Even though Maddie had seen Paul as a dream man, the movie never gave me a reason to like him. Everything about her character made me want to rol...

Jeymes Samuel's religious epic, "The Book of Clarence," is a visually appealing film that unfortunately fails to maintain a coherent storyline. Centered around the character of Clarence, a street hustler in A.D. 33 Jerusalem, Samuel's screenplay attempts to forcefully incorporate political relevance into a farcical exploitation film, mistakenly assuming that every Black film must carry significant weight. As seen in Samuel's first directorial venture, "The Harder They Fall," the filmmaker possesses a precise vision, but there exists a delicate balance between subverting the genre and making it incomprehensible. Clarence, the protagonist of "The Book of Clarence," is an intriguing character who challenges the traditional religious narrative. Despite his twin brother Thomas being one of Jesus' apostles, Clarence himself is a cynical atheist. In addition to his disbelief in religion, Clarence is involved in the drug trade, both selling and co...

Club Zero revolves around a fresh teacher who has been enlisted by a prestigious boarding school. This forward-thinking establishment has employed Miss Novak to educate the easily influenced students about the idea of "Conscious Eating," a practice that benefits both the planet and mental well-being. As a nutritionist expert, she encourages her students to consume less food and eventually abstain from it completely. The most enthusiastic students are granted entry into her clandestine diet club, known as Club Zero. This tragicomic commentary on conformity, our modern obsession with body image, nutritionary fads, and western overconsumption is truly admirable. The cast skillfully utilizes Hausner's directing style, which is both icy and formal, to deliver line readings with a knowingly mannered approach. Miss Novak, played by Wasikowska, stands out with her calm yet eerily passive-aggressive demeanor, while the children impress with their stilted and zombie-like speech pa...

The actual Hunger Games themselves are not the most captivating aspects of "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes". The real intrigue comes later, in the third part of this extensive prequel, which is based on Suzanne Collins' 2020 novel. While it is fascinating to witness the early version of the games, which takes place 64 years before the events of the original film, the true appeal lies in the depiction of Panem as it transforms into a dystopian wasteland. Director Francis Lawrence skillfully creates a vivid and desolate atmosphere that captures the essence of the franchise. Even those who are not die-hard fans will appreciate the references to Mockingjays and the inclusion of familiar names like Katniss. In these moments, we all feel like Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the screen. Amidst this chaotic backdrop, a young Coriolanus Snow begins his ascent to power. We already know that he eventually becomes the chillingly portrayed tyrant in the original...
